Kick-Starting Economic Recovery
The Made in Plumas County program began as a product development support initiative in response to the Dixie Fire, aiming to bring money back into the burn scar economy.
Initially, we worked with 26 product makers ranging from business owners to hobbyists, connecting them with resources through partnerships with Sierra Small Business Development Center, ChicoSTART, and Plumas County.
As word spread, product makers from across the county sought support, leading to the program’s expansion. Today, Made in Plumas County highlights products made, grown, manufactured, or substantially transformed within Plumas County. From wood fiber salvaged from burned trees for soil amendments to beautiful artwork created with ash as a medium, these products reflect both resilience and innovation. As the program grows, so do the opportunities for local makers to generate income, reach new retailers, and raise awareness of the unique products created in Plumas County.
